Part 1. Basis

1.10. Swings to Empower the Ball

This section explains how to apply power to the ball using a common swing of backhand or forehand. Please look at it as an example.

1.10.1 Backhand swing

Already I mentioned the basics of swing. This section, I want to describe the swing way to give a fast speed ball. what is essential condition for a swing to get the fastest ball?
Making the swing using a combination of several joints. This is the answer. For example, if you used the joint of the wrist and elbow, the racket's swing speed would be the sum of the joint speeds.

Now, let's look concretely.

Backhand swing in power1

The backswing on the left figure is seen from the left side and top.

Pull out like a sword, and then start linearly swing toward the ball, and by returning the wrist 90 degrees just before hitting the ball. The racket speed is faster of which just amount of wrist-flipped-width than the elbow hitting. The drive spin also increases.

It will be obvious if you compared to the base swing. And surprisingly well entered and it is definitive. If you would try it, you will understand it as a special swing.
Actually, there is another one in this swing. Let's look at the following figure.

Backhand swing in power2

This swing is facing up the block side in advance, flipped 180 degrees wrist just before hitting the ball.
Since this swing can be performed on the table, the cut ball also easily can be converted into a drive.
Because the racket speed becomes faster of which just amount of wrist-flipped-width than the elbow hitting, this swing can easily provide a rotation of more than opponent's cut spin.
If you can provide the rotation of more than the opponent one, it is possible to suppress the spin influence by rubber's reaction force, it becomes easy to control the ball in your intention.

1.10.2 Forehand swing

Forehand swing in power1

Again, it would be obvious when compared to the base swing. This swing speed is faster by the width equivalent of wrist rotating from the swing speed of opponent.

This is especially useful for drive return against a chopper. You will be able to dominate the game against a chopper because it is also possible to give a high speed spin to the ball. Of course, this is the strongest swing that can be used for all finishes.

1.10.3 Forehand service to the sideline

It is an important technique for higher level to be able to hit from the forehand service to the left side touch line. If you can not make your opponent move to the left or right, you can not make a chance to attack the opponent.

Forehand swing in power2

This swing is an application of the fore swing. By starting to swing the racket open, it gives the ball an upward rotation, and since it also gives the rotation of a right-side and front-side axis, it can severely attack the right side of the opponent. The flight distance of the ball is adjusted by the radius of rotation of the swing.
