Part 3. Swing Techniques Supporting the Basic Tactics

3.1. Basic Posture of Racket Swing

Before talking about specific examples of swinging techniques that support basic tactics, let's talk about "basic posture of racket swing" and "how to relax tension". All swinging techniques are based on the basic posture.

3.1.1 Basic Posture of Racket Swing

This page explains the posture to hold the racket.
A long time ago, I had a bad habit that my body could not stop turning at the finish point of the racket swing. this unconscious swing also created a barrier for consecutive strong swings.
However, the problem of this swing posture is a defect which is not noticed by oneself, and also hard to be directed an appropriate solution from the coach.

If you have any doubts about your racket swing, you can check the swing by grabbing about 3 kg (about 5% of your weight) with your dominant arm and swinging.
If you cannot stop the arm after swinging and your body is flowing, you need to review the basic posture of the racket swing.
Following is the racket swing basic posture.

Basic posture of racket swing

Expand the foots' distance to the width of shoulder, extend the back muscle, tilt the upper body forward, bend the knees, put the weight on the waist, put the weight on the knees, and raise the heels a little from the floor. Adjust so that the body does not tilt too much forward. This is the basic posture when swinging a racket.

In this state, grasping the weight and shake it like swinging the racket, you can place your own weight in the center of the body even during the swing, stop the arm after swinging, control the weight firmly without body flowing.

You always have to be conscious of this posture during the game.

Actually, this basic posture is the application of the starting posture such as a back muscle and the squat training, it is also a posture that does not hurt the hip and knee joint.

3.1.2. How to Relieve Tension

I had a bad habit that I was not able to swing well when I swing the racket strongly. The reason is that my body was hardened, because I stopped the exhaust from the lungs with saying "Ugh".

My mentor said that, "Relieve your body tension." It was difficult for me to relieve it while keeping good tension on the body muscle.
Next, as he said, I tried to exhale my breath saying as "Shoo". But, the "Shoo" was connected to the "Ugh", it became the "Shoo-Ugh". The result was the same in that it finally stopped breathing. Later I received a lot of teaching about that from people, but it did not go well.

Somewhere I was looking for some hints to solve. For a while I observed the good players of strong drive, they had a common feature which were often grinning during the game.
Certainly, people are relaxed as long as they smile.
So, I tried to say, "Nyi". Then my diaphragm has sunk, and I noticed that the diaphragm sunk and the lungs connected to the outside. In this state, since the breath is not stopped, my body is keeping good tension. And, It does not become over-breathing, my brain is clear and also my mind is healthy.

Since then, during the game, I strive to make a face grinning by "Nyi". The only way to relax during a match is to smile.
When your body is hardened, I want you to try saying in your mouth as "Nyi" or "Nyiya". You will be able to relax while keeping good tension on your body.
