Part 3. Swing Techniques Supporting the Basic Tactics

3.6. Drive Return against Cut spin

On this page explains the swing against the Cut that was mentioned in the Section 2.4. "Return by Drive against Cut".
According to the law of return by Drive against Cut, to the spin of ΘCut (ΘB) from the opponent, in the case of receiving at your right side you add a Hcork(H), in the case of receiving at your left side you add a Fcork(F) , the spin was able to change to Drive(T).
However, the way of swinging is restricted depending on whether the hitting point is on or off the table. In addition, another technique is required for a strong downward rotation from the chopper.
Following techniques are one example.

3.6.1. The Swing on the Table

(A). Offense from Your Back Swing

The Offense of Your Back Swing on the Table

Direct your palm to the floor, held the racket horizontally, and push it forward to start your swing, rub the ball's left side upward in the process of giving the Hcork.

If you provide the spin by using the root of a racket, since the spin is reduced, the stability of ball flight will be increased.

(B). Offense from Your Fore Swing

The Offense of Your Fore Swing on the Table

Direct your palm to the ceiling, held the racket horizontally, and push it forward to start your swing, rub the right side of ball upward in the process of giving the Fcork.

If you provide the spin using the root of racket, since the spin is reduced, the stability of ball flight will be increased.

3.6.2. The swing outside the table

I was interested in how Zhang Yining (She was a Wold champion of Chinese) controls the ball against a deep digged Cut. So, I illustrated the image in decomposing, which has been video recorded.

(A). Offense from Your Back Swing

Attacking of the Back Swing out the Table

She was giving the Hcork at the outside of table. The ball was rubbed the left side to the upward direction.

Although you need a little courage because it is big swing, the ball will never jump over from the table. Do not worry. Let's do it.

(B). Offense from Your Fore Swing

The Offense of Your Fore Swing out the Table

Rubbing the ball's right side to the upward direction at the outside of table, you can add the spin of Fcork.

3.6.3. Keeping the rally with Choppers

In the match against Choppers, a technique to connect a strong downward rotation with Drive is required.

(A). Keeping rally from Your Back Swing

Your Back Swing Offense away from the Table

To return Cut (ΘB) of Chopper with Drive (T), give Hcork (F).

Cut is likely to get caught in the net, so swing as follows.
① Tilt the racket forward, fix the elbow joint at 90°, rotate it with the shoulder joint, and swing it up. Rub the left side of the ball upwards near your ear.
② Cut can be weakened by hitting the racket immediately after bouncing.

(B). Keeping rally from Your Fore Swing

YKeeping the rally with Choppers

To return Cut (ΘB) of Chopper with Drive (T), give Fcork (F).

Cut is likely to get caught in the net, so swing as follows.
① Tilt the racket forward, fix the elbow joint at 90°, rotate it with the shoulder joint, and swing it up. Rub the right side of the ball upwards near your ear.
② Cut can be weakened by hitting the racket immediately after bouncing.

(C) A Offense from Your Fore Swing (Punching out against the Cut)

台から離れた下回転をドライブ返球(3)

Provide a Hcork⋅Curve⋅Drive (HRT). With just the Drive against the opponent's Cut (ΘB), it is impossible to grab the ball because it is in the same spin direction, so you more add the Hcork⋅Curve (HR) and grab it, control the ball and return it as the Hcork⋅Curve⋅Drive (HRT).
