Part 2. Think Tactics acoording to Vectors

2.5 Return the service by Converting to Drive/Cut from Hcork/Fcork

This section expains how to convert the opponent's service spin from Hcork or Fcork to Drive or Cut, and return them. This Hcork or Fcork is one of the services frequently offered by the penholders , or the spin of the pseudo-service that the handshakes provides as Cut. If this correspondence cannot be done properly, the initiative will shift to the opponent easily.

As you can see from the spin vector diagram, to send back with a Drive,
correspond for the Hcork with a Fcork⋅Drive,
also, correspond for the Fcork with a Hcork⋅Drive.

And also, to send back with a Cut,
correspond for the Hcork with a Fcork-Cut,
also, correspond for the Fcork with a Hcork-Cut.

2.5.1. Drive Return against Hcork Service

Drive Return against Hcork Service

Let's look at the order of the ball hitting.

① The opponent has served the ball with Hcork(H) to your back side.

② You add Fcork⋅Drive(FT) to the the spin on the line Ⅰ entered in your court.

③ The ball will return as a Drive(T) on the Ⅱ to the opponent's court.

Equation is as follows.
Drive = Hcork + Fcork⋅Drive
When it expressed in English initials,
T = H + (F+T)

The Swing example, Refer to 3.7.1. Techniques of the Backhand Swing of Drive Return against Hcork Service.

2.15.2. Cut-Return against Hcork Service

Cut Return against Hcork Service

① The opponent has served with Hcork(H) to your back side.

② You add Fcork⋅Cut(FB) to the spin on the line Ⅰentered in your court.

③ The ball will return as a Cut(B) on the Ⅱ to the opponent's court.

Equation is as follows.
Cut = Hcork + Fcork⋅Cut
When it expressed in English initials,
B = H + (F+B)

The Swing example, Refer to 3.7.2. Techniques of the Backhand Swing of Cut Return against Hcork Service .

2.5.3. Drive Return against Fcork Service

Drive Return against Fcork Service

① The opponent has served with Fcork(F) in your back side.

② You add Hcork⋅Drive(HT) to the spin on the line Ⅰ entered in your court.

③ The ball will return as a Drive(T) on the Ⅱ to the opponent's court.

Equation is as follows.
Drive = Fcork + Hcork⋅Drive
When it expressed in English initials,
T = F + (H+T)

The Swing example, Refer to 3.7.3. Techniques of the Back Swing of Cut Return against Fcork Service .

2.5.4. Cut-Return against Fcork Service

Cut Return against Fcork Service

① The opponent has served the ball with Fcork (F) to your back side.

② You add Hcork⋅Cut (HB) to the spin on the line I entered your coat.

③ The ball will returned as a Cut (B) on the Ⅱ to the opponent's court.

Equation is as follows.
Cut = Fcork + Hcork⋅Cut
When it expressed in English initials,
B = F + (H+B)

The Swing example, Refer to 3.7.4. Techniques of the Back Swing of Drive Return against Cut Service.

2.5.5. The Law of Drive and Cut Return against the F/B Axis Spin

<The Law of Drive Return against the F/B Axis Spin>
To return the spin of F/B axis as Drive, you need to rub the shoulder of front hemisphere from the bottom toward the top against the rotation coming from the opponent.

It is hard to remember a little, so let's paraphrase it like this.
To return the spin of F/B axis as Drive, rub the shoulder of front hemisphere from the bottom toward the top at the entrance side of their swing.

<The Law of Cut Return against the F/B Axis Spin>
To return the spin of F/B axis as Cut, you need to rub the shoulder of front hemisphere from the top toward the bottom against the rotation coming from the opponent.

It is a little hard to remember, so let's paraphrase it like this.
To return the spin of F/B axis as Cut, rub the shoulder of front hemisphere from the top toward the bottom, for the exit side of their swing.
