Part 2. Think Tactics acoording to Vectors

2.12. Measures to Left-handed

The dominant hands of most Japanese are right-handed. Left-handed are only 10% of the population. So, they are usually to play against the right-handed. Thus, the measure for one in ten people will be putting off. Therefore, it is overwhelmingly difficult for the right-handed to make a game without tactics against the left-handed. So here, let us think about the tactics.

Left-handed opponents usually hold near the corner on the left side of your view.
When confronting a left-handed person, it is better to hold your standing position in a line contrast position with respect to the net. This is to put yourself on an equal footing with the opponent in positioning. After that, You will win because of the difference in knowledge.

I wonder what would be a unusual spin for the left-handed?
In terms of the spin of the service, the daily spins served to the left-handed are Curve⋅Drive. That's because the service of Shoot⋅Drive is rare for them, so the effect will be great.

In the rallies, the forehand swing for a right-handed gives a spin of Curve⋅Drive. The swing that you receive needs to be Shoot⋅Drive, then the spin will be changed to Drive and back to the opponent.
But, the forehand swing for a left-handed gives a spin of Shoot⋅Drivet. The swing that you receive needs to be Curve⋅Drive, then the spin will be change to Drive.
Try it out. You will be able to compete with the left-handed who have struggled until now.

In this section, since the rotation in the same direction as that of the opponent's swing is overwrited and served, the spin, which is noted red dashed line in vector notation, is a invalid vector and need to be subtracted from the opponent's swing. For details, see Section 7.2 “Consideration of Spin Composition and Vector Notation”. If you have not read it yet, you need to read it first.

2.12.1. Services to the left-handed

Services to the left-handed to the left-handed

Attack to the opponent's middle-fore(Left figure)

① You have served Shoot⋅Drive (LT) to the opponent's middle-back on the line Ⅰ .
② Tho opponent recieves the spin on the Ⅰ with ΘShoot⋅Drive (LT).
③ As a result, it will become Shoot (L) and be off the table.

Attack to the opponent's fore(Right figure)

① You have served Shoot⋅Drive (LT) of Ⅰ to the opponent's foreside.
② Tho opponent recieves the spin with ΘShoot⋅Drive (LT) on the Ⅰ.
③ As a result, it will become Shoot (L) and be off of the table.

The equation is as follows.
Shoot = Shoot⋅Drive + ΘShoot⋅Drive → Table off
When expressed in English initials,
L = (L+T)+ Θ(L+T) → Table off

2.12.2. The rallies against left-handed

The rallies against left-handed

Back receive (Left figure)

① If the opponent swings unconsciously from backside, the ball will be returned with ΘShoot⋅Drive (ΘLT).
② You add Drive (T) or Curve⋅Drive (RT) to the spin on the I.
③ As a result, it is returned as Shoot⋅Drive (LT) or Drive (T) on the Ⅱ.

Fore receive (Right figure)

① If the opponent swings unconsciously from foreside, the ball will be returned with ΘShoot⋅Drive (ΘLT).
② You add Drive (T) or Curve⋅Drive (RT) to the spin on the I.
③ As a result, it is returned as Shoot⋅Drive (LT) or Drive (T) on the Ⅱ.

Equation is the following.
Shoot⋅Drive = ΘShoot⋅Drive + Drive
When expressed in English initials,
L+T = Θ(L+T) + T

Or
Drive = ΘShoot⋅Drive + Curve⋅Drive
When expressed in English initials,
T = Θ(L+T) + (R+T)
